Just done the first dose of Humira this morning... so far so good. Two nice nurses from Healthcare at home came. I notice quite a few others are just about to start Humira - so it would be nice to hear how other people get on. Just got to wait now and see what happens! I am really hoping it works for me. Anne

hi Anne,
good luck hope it works.
yes i should be starting on Humira within a month,
got to be honest i'm freaking about it all, got all the literature and a DVD last week on self injecting from Rheumy Nurse,
i will still have to stay on 10mg Methotrexate and Hydroxy for the first 3 months ... seems such a lot of Meds to take.
i will also have a Nurse visit me for the first injection ( i might get Hubby to be at home if i know the time ) as i am scared i won't be able to do it. my Rheumy Nurse said i could go over to the Hospital if i was in a pickle though.
will start my own Thread once i start it.

Hi Anne Hope the Humira is very successful for you. I inject Enbrel and I think the thought of it is worse than actually doing it. Well done Sue

Hi Suzanne, Doing the injection was actually surprisingly easy, just hold the pen again your skin (I went for tummy) - push the button and hold it to the count of ten, and then lift it up. I barely felt a thing! After all my anticipation/anxious waiting - it was all done really quick - and I'm confident for next time. Hi anyone on Humira What advice were you given about what to do if you get an infection? Do you actually get given antibiotics every time? The nurses were talking about the importance of contacting your rheum nurse if there's a problem (not much good in my case as it is just an answering machine and takes 3 to 10 days to get back to you!!). So I guess it is my GP! Did anyone actually get more infections than usual? Also does anyone get side effects after the injection? I have a headache (although I often get this with other drugs.. so am not too worried). The nurses recommended doing the injection next time at bedtime, then you can sleep off any side effects! So I'll do that next time. Anne

Hello Anne,
Well done glad it went well. I have the Humira in my fridge waiting for a wound on my finger to heal and get rid of a nasty cough. So will just be a couple of weeks behind you. I wasn't given anti - biotics but was not allowed to start the injections so presumably if you already started and get a infection you will stop tempory.
Best wishes Rose

Hi Anne,
I've been on humira about 2 years and the only side effect I get is a small red patch round the injection site which lasts a couple of days.
The rheumy nurse told me to stop the humira and mtx if I get an infection. I usually see my GP if I think I need antibiotics. Well done on doing your first injection!
Love, Doreen xx

Hi Anne, I`ve been on humira for almost four years now, and it has made a huge difference to my RA. I`ve been lucky enough not to have any side-effects. I stop my humira if I have an infection, and if I need an anti-biotic the advice from my rheumy is to wait for three days once the anti-biotics are finished, then if there`s no recurrence of the symptoms I can re-start humira. My GP familiarised himself with the anti-TNF drugs as I was the first patient at our GP Practice to be prescribed them. Hope it works for you, Kathleen C x

Yes - well done Anne. You sound very confident in doing it. Hope it is really successful for you. Rose, hope your cough and infection are clearing and you are soon on the Humira too. Are you improving yet? xx Ailsa

Ailsa, yes still coughing up nastiness but no where near as bad. Finger ok now. I am off 3 days to Malaga for city centre break so I am waiting till next week. No nurse has rung me - so I must be forgotten - but I will phone them next week

A week has passed now since the first Humira dose. No side effects so far! Blood test results all ok - so next dose in a week's time! I'm feeling a lot better too - so that's a good sign. Hope others get started on it soon. Anne

Hi Anne, great to hear that humira is working for you. It was my wonder drug. How did you find the DVD? I was the patient doing the self injecting Kelly

Hi Anne,
I've been on Humira since August. The only side effect I get is a slight site reaction and this doesn't happen every time. Nurse advised me to put Piriton cream on it. If any site reactions get quite large though, you must contact your nurse. I have actually had less infections than I had before. I did get a chest infection and GP did start antibiotics as soon as I went but said this was due to being on Methotrexate rather than the anri-tnf.
I'm glad it's going well for you.
Julie

Hi All Now had 3 doses - so far so good. Although my knee is still swollen, so don't know how long I have to wait to know for definite if it is working! Self-injecting has been fine and I haven't had any site reactions at all... in fact no reactions of any sort! Good or bad! Everything is pretty much the same, although I do feel better in myself! Just have to wait and see. Anne
